We can lay claim to having probably the largest collection of books and other non-book resources available in South African schools; certainly, we have the largest collection of books on the Antarctic..
Mr Raymond Danowski, our benefactor, has ensured that we have received donations of every kind of book dealing with aspects of the Antarctic, from the explorations of Scott, Shackleton and others, to examinations of animal and plant life. We have a wealth of material for any “Antarctica aficionado” out there and we welcome enquiries and visits.
Don Pinnock, the author of “Blue Ice”, made extensive use of this Collection on his trip to the Antarctica, taking a number of our books with him. Similarly, the Army Chaplain based at Tempe, Bloemfontein, Charl de Kock, has borrowed 25 of our books in preparation for the thesis he is writing on the spiritual effects of living in the Antarctic, having just returned from a 3 month journey there. An OD, Dr Ross Hofmeyr (also a library monitor in his time) is presently over-wintering in the Antarctica until February 2009, and will be conducting a series of experiments with Bishops' boys and Leap School students during this time.

We pride ourselves on acquiring any book requested by students and teachers and keep up to date with new and prize-winning publications, firmly convinced that a library that caters for its users and readers is the library that has proved its relevance. Reading for entertainment is as important as reading for information and we encourage our boys to read as widely as possible. Technology has not been neglected, however, and further exploration of this site will provide information on electronically based resources available here.
School policy leans heavily in the direction of e-learning and e-teaching using laptops, the intranet and web pages as essential tools, and the library has kept pace with this policy of encouraging students to be independent researchers able to retrieve information from electronic as well as the more traditional printed resources.
