Sauvignon Blanc
The Wine
For the 175 Celebration, De Grendel has produced a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc. This 2023 vintage comprises 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon and is an excellent example of the Sauvignon Blanc which De Grendel is famous for. It is the perfect accompaniment to a warm summer’s day. Butter chicken is a favourite partner, but this Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend will work equally well when served ice cold with fresh apple pie and cream.
The Maker
Sir De Villiers Graaff (Founders OD), the 4th Baronet [of Cape Town], is a prominent South African businessman and the owner of De Grendel Wine Estate. He is recognised for his achievements as a vintner and has continued the proud tradition of producing award-winning wines across multiple varietals, turning De Grendel into one of Cape Town’s premier wine and food destinations. The farm has been in the Graaff family for four generations, and vineyards were established in 2000. The first De Grendel wines were released from the farm in 2003.
The Crits
Expressive aromatics of lime, peach, grapefruit and granadilla with notes of herbs and blossom in the background. Juicy, rich and round on the palate - nicely integrated acidity and smooth in texture. A wine with wide appeal. Christian Eedes (Editor of Winemag.co.za and OD)
Gooseberry, passion fruit and blossom flowers. Juicy acidity with a limey finish. Light and fresh, a great option for summer. Tarryn Vincent (Wine Competition Judge)
