THE 175

The Wine
For the 175 Celebration, Constantia Glen has produced a special Bordeaux-styled blend which we have simply called, The 175. This 2020 vintage is blended from Malbec 40%, Cabernet Franc 30%, Petit Verdot 20% and Cabernet Sauvignon 10%, all grown and bottled on the estate, having spent 16 months in French oak. This is an ideal wine to drink now for a special celebration, or to lay down and open on a special occasion, such as your son’s 21st birthday.

The Maker
Gus Allen (Founders OD) spent his early years growing up on his parents Stellenbosch wine farm, while boarding at Bishops, and his passion for wine has been with him ever since. A wealth manager by day, Gus together with his wife’s family established Constantia Glen Wine Estate on the Constantia Wine Route, after converting the farm from a cattle stud farm to a thriving boutique winery in the early 21st century. Since the first plantings in 2000, the farm has become a well-known producer of quality Constantia wines. Gus enlisted the services of Justin van Wyk (School OD), who has been the wine-maker at Constantia Glen since their second harvest, and has helped them build a label of outstanding quality, earning top international awards.

The Crits
The nose shows a floral top note before red and black berries plus a hint of earthiness. The palate is plush with lots of juicy fruit, fresh acidity and soft tannins, with a gentle savoury finish. A wine with a luxuriant richness about it that's immediately accessible. Christian Eedes (Editor of Winemag.co.za and OD)
Generous dark fruit aromas of black cherry and plum with a lovely perfume. Hints of chocolate shavings on the palate. Youthful but silky tannins, great length and spice. Tarryn Vincent (Wine Competition Judge)

The Cost
