Team members can take part in the Spur Mountain Bike League.

The team pays weekly visits to trails in Tokai Forest, Counterman's Kloof, Hoogekraal and Majik Forest. Team members will be expected to have Tygerberg MTB club membership. Races are regularly attended on weekends and there will be two mountain biking camps during the course of the year.

The school has a 14 bike cycling trailer which can accommodate through-axle forks as well as quick release mechanisms. The trailer can accommodate DH and XC bikes and both 26 and 29" wheel sizes. Cycling kits are available at the school shop and cyclists are encouraged to ride in their kits, especially on race days.

The school has an annual inter-house XC race on the campus which is well attended. Kidd House won the trophy in 2012. There was no interhouse XC in 2013 because of poor weather, but the new XC course will host the interhouse eliminator this year.

Bishops is one of the leading schools in South Africa as far as sport is concerned and our reputation for sporting excellence is world-wide. In keeping with the ethos of our school, we believe that sport plays a vital role in the development of young men. In particular, we believe that participation in a team sport enhances the educational experience. To this end, it is a school rule that all boys must play an official school sport during both summer and winter terms.

Facilities & Coaching

The school has its own cross country course which was built by legendary trail designer, Meurant Botha. A full service facility with specialist tools so that students can do minor repairs is also available.

The cycling club also has its own store room where boarders (who are members of the cycling club) can store their bikes. The school also owns a double axle 28 bike trailer and 28 Silverback Saturn cross country bikes. These are used primarily for the Bishops Epic, but are also used by students who want to try out cycling, for The Pick and Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour as well as outreach.

Outdoor MTB training takes place at SAFCOLT Tokai forest.

Bishops cycling has a keen interest in developing a culture of cycling in South Africa. We are delighted to announce that Mountain biking skills are now part of the civics programme for 2014.

Senior Cycling Club members will train and develop keen riders who do not have access to bicycles. Bishops Epic bicycles and kit will be made available to them on Thursday afternoons for these sessions. Aspiring cyclists will also be invited to races.
