Swimming

Overview

Swimming is 'run' as a summer sport i.e. in the first and fourth terms. Training is done here at the College but swimmers in squads may train out of school instead (a letter from the outside coach is needed for this to happen - this letter must be given to the swimming manager in the first week of term).

We take part in many galas over the year and host boys and girls galas once in the year.

Vision

Bishops is one of the leading schools in South Africa as far as sport is concerned and our reputation for sporting excellence is world-wide. In keeping with the ethos of our school, we believe that sport plays a vital role in the development of young men. In particular, we believe that participation in a team sport enhances the educational experience. To this end, it is a school rule that all boys must play an official school sport during both summer and winter terms.

Facilities & Coaching

We use our own 8 lane 25m pool - under lights, covered & heated in Winter months - which we currently share with Waterpolo at College and Prep Water polo. Separate boys and girls change rooms are available. The pool area is fenced and gates are locked for safety reasons. Boys may only swim under adult supervision. Ground staff maintain the pool and prepare it for each gala.

Outreach

A team of Bishops boys teach beginners from our LEAP Maths and Science School how to swim. This is done in the first term on Thursday afternoons during civics here at the College.
