Cricket at Bishops has a proud history. Over the years we have produced a number of South African and other international players and our cricket has always ranked amongst the strongest in the country. Three Bishops old boys are still involved in international cricket (Herschelle Gibbs and Craig Kieswetter as players and Adrian Holdstock as an ICC umpire).
Herschelle Gibbs:
South Africa, Cape Cobras, Deccan Chargers, Durham, Glamorgan, Khulna Royal Bengals, Mumbai Indians, Perth Scorchers
Craig Kieswetter:
England, Somerset, South Africa U19
Adrian Holdstock:
ODI debut: South Africa vs New Zealand, 25 January 2013
T20I debut: South Africa vs Australia, 13 October 2011
At College, cricket is played on eight fields (1 field under lights) situated around the College campus and Lutgensvale. At any given time 11 games may be in progress. The College has fifteen artificial nets, four turf nets and four indoor nets.
By mid-2013, the new state of the art Steffan Coutts-Trotter Indoor Cricket Centre was completed at Bishops, comprising a hi-performance centre with four lanes. One lane is used as a dedicated bowling-machine lane, with a workstation and TV screen on the rear wall for coaching analysis purposes.
The second lane, is equipped with PitchVision. Using technology that is similar to "Hawkeye". This provides coaches and players with statistical data to assist in skill and technique improvement as part of the broader development of our cricketers. The introduction of technical equipment will be phased in. The batting component will be introduced as funds become available. The third and fourth lanes serve as conventional lanes for general bowling and batting, throw-downs, etc. As finances become available, each lane will be equipped with at least one dedicated camera, with the first two lanes having direct access to the TV screen for immediate playbacks. The Bishops Cricket office plus a conference room is situated upstairs.
Programmes have been set up with two previously disadvantaged communities.
Tygerberg CC in Ravensmead will benefit from an annual cricket equipment drive which will see Bishops Cricket assisting in the collection and purchasing of cricket equipment for the club.
Heathfield Primary will benefit from using Bishops facilities and coaching expertise for specialised coaching sessions in the Steffan Coutts-Trotter Indoor Cricket Centre under the watchful eye of Neil Carter, the Bishops Cricket Head coach
