Bishops debaters delivered an impressive performance in Round 1 of the National Debating League, competing against strong opposition in both the Junior and Senior divisions.
The Junior team, consisting of Joshua Fried, Sahil Khalfey, and Isaac Frankel, debated the motion “This House believes that schools should not require parental approval for Grade 10 subject choices.” Arguing against the motion, the team presented thoughtful and well-structured arguments, ultimately securing a convincing win against Brackenfell High School. Their efforts were further recognized when Isaac Frankel was awarded Best Speaker for his outstanding contribution to the debate.
In the Senior division, Hamaad Badroodien, Cruz Sun, and Fardeen Parker proposed the motion “This House believes the state should regulate lobola.” The team engaged in a highly competitive and intellectually rigorous debate against Bloubergrant. Although the result did not go in Bishops’ favour, the team demonstrated excellent preparation, maturity, and strong debating skill throughout.
We congratulate all six debaters on their commitment and commend them for representing Bishops with confidence, integrity, and distinction.
