Coastal Cup Hockey Festival

17 April 2026

The U14A, U16A, and 1st XI hockey teams recently travelled to Durban to participate in the Coastal Cup Festival, where they competed against strong opposition from across the country. Each side played four fixtures over the course of the tour, contending not only with quality opponents but also the demanding Durban humidity. Despite these challenging conditions, all teams displayed commendable commitment, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout.

The 1st XI began their campaign with an impressive 3–1 victory over Menlopark. This was followed by a closely contested encounter against St Andrew’s, where Bishops narrowly lost 3–4 after conceding a late goal. The team responded well and gave it their all in the next match, securing a 3–2 win against Clifton. They concluded their fixtures with a hard-fought draw against hosts Westville. Notwithstanding evident fatigue, the side demonstrated determination and strong team play in all matches.

The U16A team enjoyed an outstanding tournament, recording victories in all four of their matches. They defeated Menlopark (2–1), Pearson (3–0), Clifton (1–0), and Westville (2–1). Beyond their excellent results, the team remained humble and determined to keep learning and improving in each fixture.

The U14A side also produced a series of strong performances. Securing victories against Menlopark (3–1), Clifton (3–1), and Pearson (3–2). In their final match, after three demanding fixtures in the heat, they were narrowly beaten 0–2 by Westville. Nevertheless, the team showed notable growth, excellent goalkeeping, and good team work in every fixture.

Overall, the tour provided a valuable opportunity for growth, with all three teams benefiting from exposure to competitive fixtures played at a high intensity. The players showed encouraging development in their technical execution, decision-making, and ability to adapt to challenging conditions. Just as importantly, the tour fostered a strong sense of unity and resilience within each team.

Well done to all teams on a successful preseason tour. We wish them all the best as they head off to compete at the Hibbert Cup next weekend and for the season ahead.
