Public Speaking boys excel at WIDPSC
5 May 2026

Five of our Bishops boys recently competed at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Bristol: Hamaad Badroodien, Daniel Bursey, Samuel Clarke, Matthew de Jager and Luca Heesom. They represented their country and their school with aplomb.
Hamaad made the semi-finals for Interpretative Reading, Impromptu Speaking and Debating. Samuel Clarke made it to the semi-finals for Persuasive Speaking, Debating and Interpreative Reading. Daniel Bursey and Luca Heesom also made semi-finals for Interpreative Reading.
For the Final Round, Daniel Bursey made it through for Interpreative Reading and Samuel Clarke made it through for Persuasive Speaking.
Samuel Clarke then broke through to the Grand Finals: the round that is performed in front of the entire competition audience and comprises of only the top three scorers in the category. Out of these three, Samuel placed first in the world for his speech on how Deepfakes can destroy people’s digital identities. We are proud to have a World Persuasive Speaking Champion from Bishops.
