The recorded history of rowing racing dates back to 1430 BC in Egypt. In modern times rowing races were the first ever intercollegiate sporting competitions in the USA and second in the UK, with clubs being founded in the early 1800s.

Bishops first rowed in a race in 1937 in a four on Table Bay. Competing crews were Bishops Day Boys, School House, Rondebosch Day-boys and Rondebosch Boarders. In 1977 rowing restarted in earnest at Bishops, with an eight racing at SA Champs for the first time in 1978.

However, things went quiet until 1984 when John Peake resurrected the club, getting a boathouse built at Zeekoevlei. Since then, the rowing club has slowly and steadily grown. The first junior national representation was in 2004 in the coxed four. We currently have five junior national caps.

Bishops boat house, opened in 2012, is situated at the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club in Grassy Park. We have a fleet of 33 boats, including 3 Octopulls, 3 eights, 4 fours, 4 quads, 6 pairs, 3 doubles, and 10 singles.

We have two trailers to get our boats to regattas and four coach launches.
