School Shops FAQ


What are the Shop’s trading hours?

The Shop opens at 07h30 Mondays to Fridays; it closes at 16h30 Mondays to Thursdays and 16h00 on Fridays. On Saturdays, it is open from 08h00 to 12h00.

Closed on Sundays, Public Holidays, and during advertised periods in the long school holidays mid-year and year-end (usually mid-December to early January).

Who manages the Shop and how do we contact them?

Jerome and Melony manage the Shop, assisted by Marvina and Warren. Extra staff are hired during peak periods.

Who controls the pricing of school uniform and other merchandise?

The Bishops Business Manager monitors cost prices and markup. Quarterly price comparisons are done and kept on file.

Who procures and owns the stock?

The Shop owns all stock (approx. R3.8 million across 15,000 items).

What uniforms and merchandise does the Shop stock?

Uniforms for Bishops (Pre-Prep, Prep, College), Western Province Prep, Micklefield Girls, and Herschel Girls Schools.

Does the Shop make profit?

It’s a service-oriented operation that generates a modest profit. A 25% profit share and monthly rental go to the Bishops Bursary Fund.

How does the Shop plan and place orders?

Quarterly procurement meetings review POS data. Orders aim to be sufficient, though size forecasting remains a challenge. Stock levels are topped up as needed.

How does Bishops monitor the product quality?

Regular meetings are held with Shop Management. Product sourcing difficulties are communicated, and the Shop strives to provide good quality at fair prices.

How is customer service monitored?

Service quality is important. Most feedback is positive, though issues arise during peak times or stock shortages. Staff are asked to be patient, and customers are expected to be courteous.

What is the procurement policy for sports items?

All budgeted sports items must go through the Shop. Competitive quoting is done, and Bishops staff must get Deputy Headmaster approval for uniform orders.

What about bespoke uniforms for tours?

All tour-related uniforms must go through the Shop. It handles sourcing and quotations and ensures consistency and brand compliance.

What is the policy for sponsored items?

All sponsored items must be approved by the Bishops Executive. The Shop is the designated outlet for branded items.

  • Bishops must approve all items in writing before involving the Shop.
  • Sponsors must coordinate with the Shop for orders, branding, and payment processing.
  • Principal approval is required for any sponsor branding on merchandise.

When is the agreement between Bishops and the Shop reviewed?

The agreement is regularly reviewed. New proposals can be submitted to the Business Manager and School Council Finance Committee.
