Public Speaking Boys excel at the World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships

21 April 2022

For the past two weeks, four of our Bishops Public Speaking Boys represented their school and their country by competing online at the World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships. Participants compete across four categories: Persuasive Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Debating and Interpretative Reading. This year, there were 150 competitiors who competed across many different time zones.

All four of the Bishops competitors made the finals for one category on behalf of Team South Africa. Our excellent results were as follows:
  • Erik Todd came third in the Persuasive Speaking category and placed 21st overall in the competition.
  • Nimba Mahlati was awarded the ESL prize for the competition as a whole. He also competed in the Interpretative Reading finals (meaning he placed in the top 20 for this category).
  • Ben Anderson competed in the Debating Finals (meaning he was in the top 16 for this category). He placed 29th overall in the competition.
  • Michael Beaumont competed in the finals for the Persuasive Speaking category (meaning he was in the top 20 for this category).
