SA Schools Champs Rowing

8 March 2018
This last week saw the culmination of the rowing season with the annual South African Schools Rowing Championships. Its a tough weekend with events and finals only catered for the top 8 in each category, however our boys did extremely well to make a number of finals and came close to medals on a few occasions. The most exceptional result of the weekend can go to that of the U16 Coxed four who won a silver medal. Well done to Declan Watling, Oliver Kane-Smith, Oliver Werner, Mitch Fussell and Stefan Breytenbach. The remainder of the results are as follows: In u14 the most notable results was that of the Octupal which came 8th overall, fantastic considering the small margin that was available to reach this point. In u15 our A quad came in 7th and the Octupal came in a close 5th overall. In u16 the pair of Kane-smith and Fussell came in 6th, the eight came a close 4th (only 2 seconds off a medal), the coxed four won a silver whilst the coxless four came 5th. In the open category our second eight came 5th,. We had two pairs of Obrien and Grieve, Breytenbach and Varney, make it into the final which is outstanding considering the number of entries. The first coxless four came in 4th (very close off a medal), the coxed four did well to make the final and the eight improved remarkably and had a close race but still came in 7th. Then a hearty congratulations to all of the crews that participated on the weekend, the manner in which you represented Bishops and the way in which you fought for each race was fantastic to see and shows great resolve and determination.
