Under 15A cricket tour to the Eastern Cape
A 13-member tour party, accompanied by Messrs Hewett and Frylinck, and driver, Mark Sickle, departed Bishops, pre-sunrise, for a long-awaited maiden high school sports’ tour to the Eastern Cape on Thursday, 30/09/21. A 12-hour journey along the N2 culminated in arrival in a misty Makhanda. October dawned with a 50-overs-a-side match hosted by St Andrew’s College: a game in which Bishops emerged victorious by 23 runs. The tour party headed south, thereafter, to Gqeberha to compete in the Grey High School Colts Festival. Consecutive matches v Jeppe; Grey High School (on the Pollock Oval) and Affies followed with Bishops defeating Jeppe by 153 runs; settling for a draw against Grey and, ultimately, losing to Affies, by four wickets, in the final game of the tour. A weary – but thoroughly happy – group returned to Bishops, having driven the N2 again, on Tuesday, 05/10/21 enriched by the opportunities afforded by a high school sports’ tour

Under 14A cricket tour to KZN
During the recent holidays, the under 14A cricket team undertook a tour to Botha’s Hill, KwaZulu Natal to participate in the Charl van Rooyen under 14A Cricket Festival at Kearsney College. The team played five T20 matches in the cold and rain-affected festival, winning four of the five games. Singa Mayoyo received the tournament’s Best Batsman Award with his tally of 278 runs in four innings. The details of the matches are as follows.

1st XI cricket – Cape Schools’ Week
The 1st XI had a most successful Cape Schools’ Week, playing four matches and winning all of them!
The Frank Reid was in excellent condition after all the hard work put in by our devoted ground staff and the batsmen, in particular, should be very grateful for the true and easy paced wickets together with a fast outfield. Our top order batsmen certainly took advantage with Abel Mokwena and Kashief Joseph putting on impressive opening stands in each of the first three games - with Abel scoring three half-centuries. This enabled the middle order to capitalise on such good starts. Cole Crawford had an excellent festival with the bat and Storm Matthews scored an impressive maiden century for the 1st XI against Somerset College. All of our bowlers worked hard to take wickets and restrict the opposition batsman. Robbie Dicey is congratulated on gaining a 5fer against Queen’s College on the final day. The captain, Rowan Howard, and the whole team deserve a lot of credit for an excellent start to the second half of the cricket season. Well done to all.
